I
I am fascinated by the numerous and varied ways that fibres can be interlaced to produce textiles, containers and woven forms. I enjoy the preparation and handling of fibres, getting to know my materials and using my understanding of basketry techniques to create my pieces. My inspirations come from my science background, nature and the environment.
Currently my work is focused on looping techniques. These are very old techniques used by many indigenous peoples, for example, the Aboriginals in Australia and many tribes in Papua New Guinea. Scandinavian countries also have a long tradition of looping, especially interconnected looping or Nalbinding. I explore and adapt various looping techniques in my work, using natural and man made fibres.
Some of my pieces can be worn, please see Wearable Pieces and contact me for more information.

About me
I
In my early adult life I worked as a doctor, specialising in anaesthesia. Whilst looking after two young children I took a horticultural course and worked at the RHS Garden, Wisley for many years. Always interested in the wider usage of plants, I enrolled on the City & Guilds Creative Basketry course at the City Lit, London. I spent four very happy years making and understanding all aspects of basketry, completing Parts 1 & 2. I was awarded the Barbara Maynard Cup for the best student by the Basketmakers' Association. I also won the Competition Cup twice at the Basketmakers' Association AGMs. I served on the Basketmakers' Association Committee for eight years, three as Chair. I am a member of the exhibiting group Basketry Plus.
